Dance Dance Dance

You may think that Dance Dance Revolution is really just for kicks, but when I was in Japan for a year we went clubbing in Shinjuku at a club called Womb, repeatedly, and I have to admit that the repetitive style of Dance Dance Revolution seemed to be the in vogue way to dance. And off the panels, with arm movements and clever little kicks it was pretty amazing to watch – but a lot of hopping. And there was no voice or screen shouting “perfect” at you.

Along the same revolutionary bend, we over here probably figure that the Nintendo Bongos are an original idea, if a little strange – but back in “aught aught” when the grass was greener and life was sweeter the arcades in Japan were full-up with people banging out Madonna songs on gigantic ceremonial drums. “Like a virgin,” sweating it out and pounding away, thousands of 100 yen coins being thrown down the throat of an original and unique idea. And everyone over here thinks Nintendo is on the cutting edge of revolution with the release of the mini bongo set.

There were some days where I seriously just wanted to bang on the drum all day.
